In 13 days I am leaving the country.
My wife and I are going to get married, again. Thats a confusing sentence and it only makes sense if you consider the fact that we have already gotten legally married in a San Diego courthouse, and now we’re doing it again but this time: for the fans babyyyyyy!
Just kidding. But we are having a formal ceremony with a few close friends and family in Italy. We had originally intended on doing this “shabang” in Sara’s home town of Big Bear, CA but our plan was utterly and completely shat on by COVID. It was depressing but it was a far cry from being the worst part of my year in 2020…
Anyways. We rescheduled the wedding and it was cancelled a second time, at which point we got drunk and decided: “fuck it, let’s do what we’ve been to scared to do. Let’s have a destination wedding.”
This idea not only checked a lot of the mental boxes that had previously stressed us out (if you ever wanna avoid inviting crazy uncles or aunts to your wedding, book that shit 5,000 miles away) but it also cost half the price than a wedding stateside cost. Weddings are stupid expensive and when it comes down to it, we just wanted to be together and we didn’t care who made it.
The wedding is June 18th and after it’s over, we are going on an extended honeymoon and will be traveling throughout Europe until early October. I’ve saved money for years in hopes that one day we could do this. We’ve traveled a lot together, Sara and I. When we talk about the foundation of our relationship, this lies at the base of it. We’ve gotten pretty good at it, but this is a big trip and it’s going to be tough. I’ve worked it through a thousand times in my head and at this point I’m going to turn off the thinking and just plunge headfirst into whatever we get ourselves into.
So like I said, we leave in 13 days.
Our route is insane. In a post COVID world I’m sure we will run into unexpected roadblocks. We’ll adjust as we see fit.
We’ll eat as good and as cheap as we can. We’ll drink the same.
We’ll likely have a few old friends join us at certain points of the trip and maybe some new ones.
And I’ll keep this page as updated as possible so you’re sure to hear about the good times and the inevitable bad ones.
Wish us luck and talk soon!
xoxo
